Interesting outlook ALWAYSALADY. There is a big difference between being alone and being lonely. Hope I'm wrong, but you sound lonely. Not a good state of mind, but you seem to be taking steps to rectify that feeling. You are a member of this group, and you are sharing your feelings with other readers. Sounds like you are listening to responses.
Somewhere down the road, doors always open.

One can buy a shirt or boots for another who will cherish the attention and the time spent looking for just the right color.<<
But can you make pies? ; )

Happy end of hurricane season.

"If one had a choice between sitting at home alone vs. being with someone who makes one absolutely miserable, being alone is a good choice. But then again, some would choose miserable, I suppose."

You may give Oprah a run for her money. It seems as though you've figured it out. Staying busy and doing for others is a wonderful way beating the holiday blues. One can buy a shirt or boots for another who will cherish the attention and the time spent looking for just the right color. It might not be a husband. Maybe the senior down the street, or your priest at your church. Or a child whose favorite toy was washed away by Katrina. Plenty of ways to give joy, love and to receive it. It'll just be different. And who knows, different might even be better. Donna

Being single is good, but being married is better, it goes without
saying to the right person, of course.

Holidays weren't made for single people, were they? One good thing happening, is I'm going to be a grandmother in a couple of weeks. <<
Congratulations on the new status in life.

Being single isn't so bad. So is being alone. If one had a choice between sitting at home alone vs. being with someone who makes one absolutely miserable, being alone is a good choice. But then again, some would choose miserable, I suppose.
